BBC Flog It! coming to the De La Warr Pavilion

5th August 2011

Eve White:

Hi everyone,

I wanted to let you know that the popular BBC2 antiques programme, Flog It!, presented by Paul Martin, is coming to the De La Warr Pavilion on Wednesday 24th August 2011.

Admission is free and doors open 9:30am - 4:00pm

We would love to see as many people as possible there, and word of mouth is one of the best ways to get people coming along. Please let friends, family and colleagues who might be interested in coming about us!

Rather like a treasure hunt, members of the public are invited to bring along the antiques and collectables they might be interested in selling. Once valued, the owner and team of experts decide whether it should go forward for auction. If the item is chosen it is sold a few weeks later – often with the owner making a tidy sum.

Everyone who goes along to the Valuation Day will receive a valuation – even if their antiques are not chosen to go forward for auction.

Previous programmes have seen a small cream jug sold at auction for £1,300; a ceramic bowl, bought for £4 at a car boot sale, achieving £1,500; and a lady in Aberdeen sold a Shelley tea set for a huge £3,400! More recently we surprised a gentleman who brought in a ceremonial cup made from Rhino horn; it later sold for £44,000!

So if you've ever wondered how much those boot sale bargains or clutter in the loft might be worth, now is your chance to find out.

We hope to see you there!

Eve (Location Researcher)

Margaret from Behill

13th June 2011

Simon Wilde:

I'm looking for a lady called Margaret from Bexhill. We met very briefly on Hope Gap beach late afternoon Friday 3rd June 2011 and had a good chat about kayaks & Winchelsea beach, etc. Margaret was with a friend, a gentleman, who had taken her out for the day but was not her husband. Margaret is blonde/fair hair and attractive. There was a connection between us and I'd like to follow that up. If this is you, or you know of a Margaret that fits the bill then please either get in touch with me or ask her to contact me.

Blake and Sommerville Families

2nd August 2009

Paul Garner-Richards:

My great grandfather Charles William Blake (laundry owner) married Ellen Sommerville (nurse) at St. Stephen's Church, Bexhill-on-Sea on 4 April 1932. Ellen's father is given as William Sommerville, a Land Steward. The marriage was witnessed by Richard Sommerville and I think the second name is Yvonne Sommerville Macey. I would like to find out more about the Sommerville and Blake families.

Regards
Paul Garner-Richards
